Maybe that’s the reason why Sakura hits so close to home for many she makes them uncomfortable that they, too, attach their egos to bigger things, people, and concepts to feel bigger however, they’re “good” because that’s how things are meant to be you just have to overcome some insecurities, not all. Isn’t that basically the crux of Sakura’s entire characterization? I can’t be the only one who saw the obvious similarities between these two. And by attaching themselves to something bigger, they’re no longer insecure. That’s a long-standing issue with white individuals that they tie their insecurities and the small starving egos to the “big things” as it makes them feel bigger, too. Most of these women are from white America (most of them) and American Nationalism overwhelms the individual and merges it with the American Idealism. Why’s that the case? A lot of this is due to projection, as well, and where the people who practice this come from. If the reasons just come down to being “left out”, then, at the end of the day, they, too, are genocide, mass-slaughter, and exploitation promoters yet I don’t see anyone bringing up this very crucial argument. I do feel like we're getting a resurgence of classic content now too! (In 2021)” They almost created entirely new stories with new characters of their own! If it weren't for those people, the Undertale fandom would have probably not been as active as it is now. Although personally, I always enjoyed AUs that kept characters as close to the classic material as possible (dancetale, outertale) I do appreciate the creativity of the fandom. There is an interesting balance between AU and canon (sometimes referred to as “classic”) content that another responder pointed out: “The fandom helped keep the game alive all these years, with all of its AUs. ![]() “Roll your eyes at the 50th AU Sans all you want, it's encouraging people to step outside the boundaries of fanart and pushing people to make their own ideas! I mean, hell, it was how I gained the confidence to start making my own original content.” The lack of a judgemental atmosphere seems present in the AU community, according to the responses we saw. Some fans are tired of AU content, but the majority of responses show a love for the creativity behind AUs. One thing that makes the Undertale fandom unique is the way it embraces various AUs. However, by doing that he ignores the suffering of the victims right in front of them. He’s too weak individually, so he has to manipulate, pull strings, and even kill in order to achieve the results he thinks will save the most people. He forces himself to dirty his hands, because he believes this is the only way he can be a hero. Self sacrifice turns into self destruction. He’s the extreme result of self sacrifice. Because, Hawks does not just sacrifice himself. He’s not framed as a hero trying desperately to save a villain, but rather a friend betraying another friend who trusted him. Hawks is just lying to himself, because he didn’t go out of his way to save Jin, he ruthlessly manipulated him, and then betrayed him. ![]() Hawks didn’t offer Jin a hand, he held him at gunpoint and told him to surrender and betray his friends. However, from Jin’s perspective we see how manipulative he is. He thinks he’s offering people a helping hand. ![]()
